Beach Pillow DIY Whale Applique Pillow
I think the hardest part of this pillow was deciding what beach shapes I wanted to use, what fabric to use and how to do it. I started out thinking I would do a blue and white seastar applique pillow but I just couldn’t commit to the idea. I kept playing with fabric and shapes until it dawned on me, “duh! I should do a whale applique pillow!”. I don’t normally go for applique projects, but this whole Beach Pillow DIY series was about playing with different techniques.
So I found a whale shape I liked online, printed it out and traced it onto some lightweight two-sided fusible web. From there I followed the instructions for the fusible webbing to attach it to my fabrics (I had pre-cut my fabric). An optional step would be to sew either a zig-zag or straight stitch the outline of the whales so that they are sure to stay. I used the Happy Housie’s tutorial for an envelope pillow case to stuff a 17″x17″ pillow.
And there you have it. The final pillow of the Beach Pillow DIY series.
While I was making all of these pillows I got some inspiration for my next quilt! I’m still working on some of the details but I’m excited to start another quilt project to share with you.
